Efforts to undermine the #judiciary come at the same time the #Trump admin has moved to fire lawyers inside the #DOJ & the #Pentagon, penalize private law firms who represented clients Trump does not like, & to back away from participation in the activities of the #ABA.
Congressional #Republicans close to the president even have proposed #impeachment proceedings against a few of those judges, who serve for life.
#ElonMusk, who oversees #DOGE making cuts to federal agencies, himself has repeatedly posted on social media about impeaching #judges who delay or block parts of #Trump's agenda.
Federal #judges who have ruled against the #Trump admin this year are confronting a wave of threats, compromising their safety & the #independence of the #judiciary.
The sister of #SCOTUS Justice #AmyConeyBarrett received a bomb threat earlier this month, & lower court judges who paused some of Trump's efforts to dismantle #FederalAgencies & programs have been targeted.

Data on #DomesticTerrorism investigations indicate #FarRight #extremists have been a rising threat to Americans over the past half decade….The rate of increase in domestic-terrorism-related cases is eye-popping: A Feb 2023 Govt Accountability Office report found the #FBI tallied 9,049 such cases in 2021, up from 5,557 in 2020; 4,092 such cases in 2019; & 3,714 in 2018. In 2017, the year of #UniteTheRight, there were 1,890 domestic-terrorism-related cases, nearly equivalent to the preceding 4yrs.
…After almost 20 yrs of obsessively focusing on Salafist jihadis, in 2021 under the #Biden admin, agencies including the #DOJ, #FBI, & #DHS began to attend to the spiking threat of #violent #FarRight #extremism. "Trump’s pardons immediately upended the biggest single prosecution in U.S. history and signaled a broader reversal that threatens to create a more permissive climate in which extremists could regroup, weaken the FBI’s independence and revive old debates about who counts as a terrorist, according to current and former federal law enforcement officials and national security experts.
In the whirlwind of the last three weeks, the Trump administration has purged federal law enforcement agencies of prosecutors and investigators who’d been pursuing homegrown far-right groups that the FBI lists as among the most dangerous threats to national security. The Biden administration’s 2021 domestic terrorism strategy — the nation’s first — was removed from the White House website. And some government-funded extremism-prevention programs were ordered to stop work.
“There’s no indication that he engaged in any kind of assessment or has even stopped to think, ‘What did I just unleash on America?’” Mary McCord, a former federal prosecutor who oversaw domestic terrorism cases as a senior Justice Department official, said of Trump’s actions.
Colin Clarke, an analyst at the nonpartisan security-focused Soufan Center, said “far right” and “domestic terrorism” are now “kind of dirty words with the current administration.”
Far-right movements that openly promote violence have suddenly been invigorated, he said. “Does this become a four-year period where these groups can really use the time to strengthen their organization, their command and control, stockpile weapons?” he said."
