@greycat @godpod EXACTLY!

And they should only be paid for the time they are actually working, not a second more!

Also every kind of income should be taxed like #WageWork and #BuyBorrowDie needs to be criminalized as illegal #TaxDodging and #SocialSecurityFraud!

🚨 Missouri House passes bill repealing voter-approved mandated paid sick leave 🚨

Proposition A passed in November with 57% of the vote. The statute raises the minimum wage to an eventual $15 an hour in 2026. It also mandates paid sick leave for employees with some exceptions.

The legislation passed on Thursday entirely repeals the mandated sick leave portion. It also removes any minimum wage increase slated to go in effect in January 2027 and beyond.

Labor groups ring alarms over proposed changes to #Nebraska minimum wage, paid sick leave laws

Labor activists criticized a pair of legislative bills seeking to weaken voter-approved #minimumwage and #paidsickleave laws.

Worker advocates and union leaders spoke out against the proposed changes as attempts to undermine the will of Nebraska voters, who over the past three years have approved increasing wages and paid leave for all workers via ballot measure.

Continuing my Sunday-morning newspaper reading...

Excellent op-ed in the NY Times today on how the US economy and policies and pushing working people into homelessness.

"Today there isn’t a single state, city or county in the United States where a full-time minimum-wage worker can afford a median-priced two-bedroom apartment."

"Because when work no longer provides stability, when wages are too low and rents are too high, when millions of people are one medical bill, one missed paycheck, one rent hike away from losing their homes — who, exactly, is safe?"

The New York Times · Opinion | America Is Pushing Its Workers Into HomelessnessBy Brian Goldstone

Today in Labor History February 26, 1941: 14,000 workers struck at Bethlehem Steel’s Lackawanna mill in Buffalo, New York. As a defense contractor, the company had $1.5 billion worth of armament orders, but refused to pay the minimum wage mandated for government contracts. Furthermore, they had recently fired 1,000 workers, blaming their last work stoppage for damaging some coke ovens. The pickets effectively stopped scabs from getting in. After less than 2 days, the company agreed to rehire the fired men and began talks on a raise and union recognition. However, a month later, they reneged.

Republicans seek to roll back voter-approved minimum wage increases

Missouri House Republicans are looking to alter the new minimum wage and sick leave law voters approved in November.

Proposition A, which passed in rural, suburban and urban parts of the state, raised the minimum wage from $12.30 an hour to $13.75 an hour this year. It will go up again to $15 an hour in 2026, with inflationary increases allowed after that.

Employers with gross annual receipts of at least $500,000 will also be required to provide earned sick leave to employees.
